Legendary Football Coach Passes Away

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Glenn Allen Furman (October 16, 1942 – February 7, 2026), a devoted coach, mentor, teacher, and beloved leader in our community. Coach Furman was a highly successful head football coach at T.C. Williams High School (now Alexandria City High School) from 1982 to 1991, compiling a 94-23-2 record, winning two Virginia AAA state championships (1984, 1987), and achieving national rankings. Coach Furman never had a losing season in 30+ years of coaching, including time as an assistant during the 1971 era. Below are many of his accomplishments:

  • Championships: Led the Titans to state titles in 1984 and 1987, both with 14-0 records, and a state runner-up finish.
  • Record: Finished with a 94-23-2 record in 10 seasons as head coach at T.C. Williams.
  • National Recognition: The 1984 and 1987 teams were ranked 3rd and 7th in the nation, respectively, by USA Today.
  • Awards: Named 1984 Pigskin Coach of the Year and 1987 Touchdown Club of Washington D.C. “Timmie” Award winner (National High School Coach of the Year).
  • Legacy: Inducted into the Fairfax County Football Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. He was part of the staff during the 1971 era depicted in “Remember the Titans”.

Coach Furman dedicated much of his life to shaping young athletes—not just on the field, but in life.  Whether he was guiding players through challenges or celebrating victories with them, Coach Furman gave his heart to the sport and to the youth he coached. His legacy of integrity, leadership, and community will continue to inspire all who followed in his footsteps.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, former players, and all who were touched by his life and his work. Coach Glenn Furman’s impact will be remembered and cherished for years to come.

Rest in peace, Coach. 🕊️ Once a Titan, Always a Titan.
